PM designate praises his team as right mix of experts

Croatia's Prime Minister-Designate Tihomir Oreskovic on Thursday presented ministerial nominees who will seek a vote of confidence from the parliament on Friday, and while introducing his cabinet at a brief news conference, Oreskovic said that the candidates "are high-quality people from the business sector, the academic community and the public sector".

Oreskovic, whose nickname is Tim, said at the start of the news conference that this would be "Tim's team". Before the conference, a list with the names of the candidates was handed out to reporters.

The PM-designate praised his team as "a very healthy and positive mix, full of energy." Oreskovic also praised the nominees as people "ready for every challenge lying ahead."

According to the list presented to reporters, the Oreskovic cabinet includes two deputy prime ministers: Tomislav Karamarko of the Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ), who will be the first deputy prime minister, and Bozo Petrov of the Bridge party.

As for the ministerial departments, Zdravko Maric, a former state secretary at the finance ministry and currently an executive at the privately-owned Agrokor food group, will be at the helm of the finance ministry.

Ante Sprlje, a judge from the southern town of Metkovic, is the nominee for the justice ministry and Dubravka Jurlina Alibegovic, an expert at the Institute of Economics in Zagreb, is to head the ministry of public administration.

Although the name of the candidate for the interior minister was left out from the list by mistake, it was later said that this department would be led by Vlaho Orepic, proposed by the Bridge party.

Darko Horvat of the HDZ is to be the new minister for small and medium enterprises and the nominees for the ministers of labour and pension system and transport are HDZ officials Nada Sikic and Oleg Butkovic respectively.

According to the list, the tourism ministry will be headed by Anton Kliman, and the construction and zoning ministry is to be headed by Lovro Kuscevic, both from the HDZ.
