PM-designate says Bozinovic will be his chief of staff

Prime Minister-Designate Andrej Plenkovic said on Monday Davor Bozinovic would be his chief of staff.

Over the past several days the media have mentioned Bozinovic as a possible candidate for the position of deputy prime minister in charge of national security as well as for the position of interior minister, but Plenkovic told RTL television that Bozinovic would be his chief of staff.

Plenkovic declined to speak about the names of future ministers in his government, reiterating however that the Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) had more than enough experts and announcing talks with potential ministers in the near future.

"It is impossible to satisfy everyone. It is always up to the prime minister-designate and up to a possible political agreement to find the best possible solutions for the future and, in accordance with that, I will hold talks with a number of colleague in the coming days," Plenkovic said.

He declined to answer if Zdravko Maric would remain finance minister. "He is one of the candidates for the position, but there are other colleagues as well. I would leave alone all this staffing talk for now, give me a day or two to hold these talks first," Plenkovic said.

He underscored that he consciously and purposely did not want to hold talks with potential ministers before the president appointed him PM-designate.

"I believe this would have caused uneasiness and that was unnecessary. It was necessary to raise a parliamentary majority and collect the signatures of 91 deputies," Plenkovic explained.

He reiterated the government would most definitely have more than one woman, but declined to talk names.

Plenkovic reiterated he advocated the continuation of the arbitration with Hungary's MOL.
