PM to talk with ministerial nominee Medved this afternoon

Prime Minister Tihomir Oreskovic said on Tuesday that later in the day he would hold talks with retired general Tomo Medved, the candidate of the ruling Patriotic Coalition for the new war veterans' minister, after which the Prime Minister's decision on the matter can be expected.

"I will use this afternoon as an opportunity to meet the candidate (Medved), and I hope I will make a decision today," Oreskovic told the press after he had outlined the budget proposal for 2016 to lawmakers.

Medved has appeared to be the likeliest next minister after the Coalition's nominee Milijan Brkic of the Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) decided to give up the candidacy. According to some media speculations, the Bridge reformist party, that is a member of the government, seemed not to be in favour of Brkic.

Asked by the press whether the Bridge party would find Medved acceptable, PM Oreskovic answered: "I don't know. Yesterday was the first time we heard of Mr (Medved)," Oreskovic said.

Regarding a state of affairs in the government, Oreskovic, the non-partisan premier, said that government members had different opinions but he did not find this problematic,.

"This is a democracy," he said.
