Police directorate comments on burglary at police headquarters

The National Police Directorate on Monday afternoon issued a statement to the press about a robbery at the Zagreb Criminal Investigation Department, saying that an investigation was underway due to a "break-in that occurred in the night between April 3 and 4."

"An investigation is being conducted by the Zagreb County Prosecutor's Office and a criminal investigation is being conducted by the National Police Directorate in cooperation with the relevant prosecutor's office," a brief statement notes.

According to unofficial sources, unidentified thieves stole two kilograms of gold and 280,000 euro from police headquarters.

The national police union on Monday sent a letter to Interior Minister Vlaho Orepic calling for the replacement of the national chief-of-police and Zagreb chief-of-police, claiming that the stolen items, confiscated from a citizen two months ago, had not been stored appropriately.
