PPD gas company claims business operations lawful

The "Prvo Plinarsko Drustvo (PPD)" gas company on Thursday issued a press release refuting media reports that its owner Pavao Vujnovac had demanded through the media that the Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) return the money the company had lent it as well as claims about the company's suspect ownership structure and origin of capital, stating that the company operated lawfully and transparently.

“Pavao Vujnovac did not request the money via the media. In an interview with the Nacional weekly, Vujnovac answered questions about the loan truthfully and publicly. That is clear to anyone who has read the entire interview," the press release says.

The press release underscores that anyone can inspect the Commercial Court register and check the ownership structure of the PPD and the related companies.

"As far as we are aware, not one reporter has done that. We call on reporters who spread news about a suspect ownership structure or origin of capital of the company to inspect publicly accessible documents and check the truth about what they are writing about, respecting the rules of the trade before releasing information of that nature," the press release says.

The PPD stressed that it operates lawfully and transparently in accordance with Croatian and European Union legislation, that it does not owe one cent to the tax department and that it employs around 124 people, most of whom are highly educated professionals.

"We refuse to be a means of political showdowns and will not be passive observers while untruths about the company and its employees are being published," the press release says.
