President calls for political unity in projects critical for stable development

Croatian Parliament Kolinda Grabar-Kitarovic has called for political unity in projects critical for structural changes and stable development.

"Today, we are not yet where we are supposed to be. We need a comprehensive approach to problems ahead of us in defining and implementing reforms, we need to stop politicising and stop searching for quick fixes to score political points," Grabar-Kitarovic said Tuesday.

The president underscored Croatia needed to abandon the policy of destroying quality projects for partisan interests.

"We need unity, notably political unity, in projects and activities critical for structural changes and stable economic development," the president said.

The president recalled that last year she was critical towards the announcements made by the previous government about the 2% planned economic growth. Grabar-Kitarovic said she was equally critical of projections presented in the national reform programme presented by the incumbent government.

"The plan projects a 2% economic growth 2016 and a 2.5% economic growth in 2019. This leads to a conclusion that reforms will not be efficient or that objectives are set too low- And objectives must be ambitious if we want to achieve a satisfactory growth," Grabar-Kitarovic said.
