President says Croatia must take single position in relations with MOL

President Kolinda Grabar-Kitarovic in Sisak on Tuesday held talks with representatives of trade unions and veterans' associations active in the Sisak Oil Refinery, saying that relations with MOL were a strategic issue important for Croatia's energy security.

The president announced that she would brief the new prime minister and members of his government on the positions expressed at the meeting with unionists and veterans from the Sisak Refinery, so that they could take a single position on this important issue.

"I will act in line with my constitutional powers and I also call on all relevant institutions to act in accordance with theirs. A single national position is necessary as the country's energy security is at stake," Grabar-Kitarovic said.

She said that things were developing in the right direction, which she said was important given that relations with MOL had deteriorated as did Croatia's relations with Hungary.

Unionists dismissed MOL's claims that the Sisak Refinery was non-profitable. They said that with the recent transport of 600 tonnes of crude oil to the refinery at Rijeka instead of Sisak,  MOL wanted to shut down the production at Sisak which would jeopardise Croatia's energy security.
