Probe into Sacic, Drlje for war crime in Ramljani called off

The Zagreb County Prosecutor's Office said on Thursday it had called off an investigation into a war crime in the village of Ramljani and, according to unofficial information, the investigation was called off into Zeljko Sacic, wartime Interior Ministry special police assistant commander, and Frano Drlje, former member of the Lucko anti-terrorist unit.

The Zagreb County Prosecutor's Office said on its website that in July 2014 it resumed an investigation of the two suspects in line with the new Criminal Procedure Act and that, since the investigation did not result in grounds for suspicion that they committed the crime in Ramljani, it decided to call off the investigation.

The investigation was resumed after the Zagreb County Prosecutor's withdrew the "flawed indictment" against them.

The indictment was withdrawn seven months after the Zagreb County Court acquitted Drlje and Bozo Krajina of a war crime in Grubori, pending appeal. Sacic was initially suspected for the Grubori crime but he was investigated separately.

Sacic and Drlje were investigated for a crime against civilians committed in the Knin and Gracac area on 25 and 26 August 1995 during an armed conflict between Croatian armed forces and Serb paramilitaries.
