The public sector should be an example of corporate social responsibility, Croatian President Kolinda Grabar-Kitarovic said on Thursday at an award ceremony organised by the Croatian Employers' Association (HUP) at which the main award was presented to Ericsson Nikola Tesla.
"It is the public sector's duty not just to encourage but also to be an example of corporate social responsibility," Grabar-Kitarovic said.
She underscored that stakeholders must be committed to general and not individual objectives and interests and constructively approach all social problems free of party and political objectives.
The president called for the implementation of comprehensive reforms which would facilitate business activities, make Croatia more attractive to domestic and foreign entrepreneurs and create a stimulating working environment which would pave the way for corporate social responsibility. This is not only the government's duty, but the duty of the entire public sector, she added.
Grabar-Kitarovic called on the media to promote corporate social responsibility, as well as on state institutions to show greater responsibility towards citizens' needs and demands and consumers to choose products produced by socially responsible businesses.
HUP presented awards to companies which last year had the best corporate social responsibility projects. The main awards went to Ericsson Nikola Tesla.
