Pupovac says doesn't want to be deputy PM

The vice president of the the Independent Democratic Serb Party (SDSS), Milorad Pupovac, on Saturday dismissed media headlines according to which he negotiated the position of deputy prime minister in the new government with Social Democratic Party (SDP) chief Zoran Milanovic, stressing that he would not accept this position even if it were offered to him.

"Neither Milanovic offered that, nor had we discussed it. Even if that position had been offered to me, I would not have accepted it because I have other preferences and obligations in parliament and at the university where I work," Pupovac told Croatian Radio.

He also said the SDSS finds Milanovic's offer to Bridge party leader Bozo Petrov to be parliament speaker acceptable.

"As the leader of the bridge platform, Petrov is calling for national unity and the position of parliament speaker, along with the president of the republic, is ideal for guaranteeing unity. I don't know Petrov personally, but judging by his public appearances, I believe he would have been good at that position and should he accept it, we would not have a problem with supporting his choice," Pupovac said.

He however is not in favour of a non-party expert government, saying this would reduce the influce of citizens of the political decision making through elected representatives
