Reiner: HDZ is strong, united; presidency supports Karamarko

Zeljko Reiner, Parliament Speaker and member of the Presidency of the ruling Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) party, said on Friday that the Presidency was unanimous in supporting HDZ leader Tomislav Karamarko.

"The party is united and strong, and its unity and strength will be seen tomorrow, at the party's electoral convention," Reiner said after a meeting of the HDZ Presidency.

He said that the current situation was only making the party stronger.

"A clear position has been taken to what I personally cannot understand, which is why Bridge wants to topple this government of which it is a member and why it actually wants to bring Zoran Milanovic to power again," said Reiner.

"I don't understand it, but it is an evident attempt in that direction," he added.

Asked when the Social Democratic Party's motion for a vote of no confidence in Karamarko would be put on the parliament's agenda, Reiner said that it would be done within deadlines defined by the parliament's standing orders, by June 18.

But when it is put on the agenda, I'm sure that the majority will support Mr Karamarko, said Reiner.
