Reiner: Majority will support Karamarko

Parliament Speaker Zeljko Reiner of the Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) party repeated on Sunday that a debate and a vote on confidence in First Deputy Prime Minister Tomislav Karamarko of the HDZ would be held in line with the parliament's standing orders, by June 18 at the latest, expressing confidence that the parliamentary majority would support Karamarko and reject the opposition SDP party's motion for his impeachment.

"As a member of the HDZ Presidency, I can say that there is no doubt that a majority of parliamentary deputies will support the HDZ leader," Reiner told reporters during an open-day event at the parliament.

He would not answer explicitly when asked if that meant that he did not believe Bridge leader Bozo Petrov, who had said that 12 Bridge deputies in the parliament would vote for Karamarko's impeachment.

I am confident a majority will vote for Karamarko, he said.

He said that he hoped the parliament's Conflict of Interest Commission would make a decision regarding allegations that Karamarko had been in a conflict of interest.

Reiner would not say when the parliament could decide on the appointment of ten Constitutional Court judges.

He expressed confidence that the government, regardless of the current relations within it, would continue working normally and sending the parliament its proposals.
