Reiner says 8th parliament fails to meet expectations

Parliament Speaker Zeljko Reiner has said that the 8th parliament, which was officially dissolved on Friday, has failed to do what it was expected of it, namely it failed to implement structural reforms.

"The 8th parliament failed to do what all of us expected of it, and that is the implementation of true structural reforms," Reiner said.

The parliament speaker claims Croatia has moved a little bit forward in the past six months but not as much as it needed, stressing that political stakeholders are responsible for that.

Reiner said he was not satisfied with the work of parliament although it had adopted more than 220 acts, 33 laws and discussed 127 items.

The 8th parliament was officially dissolved on Friday when the decision on self-dissolution, adopted in June, went into force. Constitutional deadlines for early parliamentary election started running on Friday. The early election can be held 60 days after the parliament was dissolved at the latest.

The 8th parliament was different in many ways than previous parliaments. Its term lasted only 200 days (effectively only 57 days) and it was the only time that the ruling party impeached its own prime minister.
