SDP leader accuses rivals of 'squalid' policies

Social Democratic Party (SDP) leader Zoran Milanovic said in his soapbox address in Split's Riva waterfront promenade on Saturday that the SDP's main rival in the coming snap parliamentary election. the Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) used the slogan "Trustworthiness" only because they lacked trustworthiness.

During the rally held by the SDP and its coalition partners, Milanovic introduced himself to the audience as "a national civic politician and not a a submissive, fickle pencil pusher in Brussels," alluding to the career of the new HDZ leader, Andrej Plenkovic, in the European Parliament.

Milanovic also accused the HDZ of having those who have sold INA and who advocate the cancellation of arbitration against MOL on its slates for the election.

He said that the SDP-led government would "take back INA to Croatia in a legal way."

In his speech he insisted that the SDP-led People's Coalition can recognise the difference Western democracy and Balkan street politics.

We are a national coalition that safeguards the national interests, he said.

There are "pure and squalid right politics". For instance, the pure right policies are conducted by (German Chancellor) Angela Merkel, Milanovic said, underscoring that during his premiership he had an excellent cooperation with Merkel during the refugee crisis.

"However, there is this squalid right politics of intolerance, ethnic businesses and national divisions," Milanovic said adding that those who advocated such politics were not friends of either Croat or Serb peoples.
