SDP urges decision on debate, vote of no confidence in Karamarko

After he was ordered out of the parliament on Tuesday, Social Democrat MP Pedja Grbin called on First Deputy Prime Minister Tomislav Karamarko to leave the government as soon as possible and prevent further damage, while his party colleague Igor Dragovan said that a decision on when the parliament would discuss and vote on confidence in Karamarko should be made as soon as possible.

"The Parliament Speaker did not want to hear about scholarships not being paid to students, about the payment of welfare benefits stopping tomorrow, about the discontinuation of the curricular reform. But first and foremost, he did not want to hear that a government minister, Mr Butkovic, yesterday grossly violated the Conflict of Interest Prevention Act and the Act on the Management of State Property by launching a procedure to appoint, without a previous government decision and behind the back of his coalition partners, the management boards of a number of 'unimportant' state-owned companies such as the Croatian Railway, the HAC highway operator and the Transmitters and Communications company," said Grbin.

"The management boards that have been appointed this way will be prevented from making decisions because anyone with a legal interest will at any time be able to launch the annulment of any decision any such management board makes. That means that every public procurement procedure, every contract the said firms sign will be null and void, and it will not be possible to implement it. The harm this government is causing the country is huge and that must stop immediately," said Grbin.

Igor Dragovan, who walked out of the parliament with several other SDP MPs after Grbin was ordered out, said that a decision on when a debate and a vote of no confidence in Karamarko would take place should be made as soon as possible and called on the ruling majority to say when that topic would be on the parliament's agenda.
