A robbery at the Zagreb Criminal Investigation Department that occurred in the night between April 3 and 4 is the reason for the resignations offered by Chief Police Director Vlado Dominic, the head of the Zagreb police directorate, Goran Burisic, and another two senior police officials in Zagreb, and for the suspension of police official Zeljko Dolacki, in whose office the burglary took place.
Interior Minister Vlaho Orepic informed a news conference about these personnel changes in the police on Tuesday.
Orepic said disciplinary proceedings would probably be launched against Dolacki, and he did not give any more detail about the ongoing investigation.
The National Police Directorate on Monday afternoon issued a statement to the press about the robbery at the Zagreb Criminal Investigation Department, saying that an investigation was under way due to a "break-in that occurred in the night between April 3 and 4."
"An investigation is being conducted by the Zagreb County Prosecutor's Office and a criminal investigation is being conducted by the National Police Directorate in cooperation with the relevant prosecutor's office," the brief statement notes.
According to unofficial sources, unidentified thieves stole two kilograms of gold and 280,000 euros from police headquarters.
On Tuesday, the police declined to give any new information about the case.
