Suspected terrorist for several attacks across Turkey arrested while vacationing in Croatia

A 52-year old tourist from Germany of Kurdish origin, wanted by Interpol on suspicion of terrorism, was arrested in Kostanje, near the southern Croatian town of Omis, on Wednesday.

The man was taken before an investigating judge at the Split County Court, who set a EUR 50,000 bail, Split police reported on Thursday morning.

The arrested man arrived in Kostanje  from Cologne three days ago with his family. He did not resist the arrest.

According to the media, the man in question is Murat Catulay, who took part is several terrorist attacks across Turkey between 1989 and 2001. He was an activist of the TIKKO terrorist organisation (the Turkish Liberation Army of Workers and Peasants), a military wing of the Turkish Communist Party.

The man has not been to Turkey for 25 years and does not want to be extradited there. He is facing a sentence of life imprisonment in Turkey.
