Tomasic: Both Petrov and Karamarko should resign

The leader of the Croatian Conservative Party and member of the European Parliament, Ruza Tomasic, said on Sunday that it would be best for Croatian citizens and Croatian national interests if deputy prime ministers Bozo Petrov and Tomislav Karamarko resigned and were replaced by "new people".

"I don't believe in a reshuffle and we can't have a new election because, as you have heard, that would cost us several billion euros, and we cannot afford that," Tomasic told Hina before her party's convention in Zagreb. "Anyone who has any love for Croatia will do what's best for her," she added.

Prime Minister Tihomir Oreskovic on Friday called on his two deputies to step down after he failed to defuse tensions between them. Petrov had backed an opposition motion for Karamarko's impeachment because of his alleged conflict of interest in the INA-MOL case.

Karamarko said on Saturday that his HDZ party was inclined to reshuffle the parliamentary majority, adding that unless Oreskovic resigned, the HDZ would launch a procedure for his impeachment. Petrov said that the political responsibility rested with Karamarko.
