The SSSH trade union federation has said that it expects the government to be formed soon to adopt a comprehensive wage policy in order to reduce social inequalities and poverty as well as to launch an efficient dialogue with its social partners - unions and employers, with equal respect for them.
The SSSH said in a statement on Tuesday that the government's first move should be a decision on increasing the minimum wage for 2017.
The Minimum Wage Act explicitly states the goal of gradually increasing the share of the minimum wage in the average wage, the SSSH recalls, calling for an agreement between the government and the social partners on models and timelines for a gradual increase in the share of the minimum wage in the average wage to 50%.
The union also urged completing the legal definition of the minimum wage as the basic wage to which bonuses, to which workers are entitled under the Labour Act and collective agreements, are added.
"We also expect the new government to finally eradicate the non-payment of wages," the SSSH says, calling on the outgoing (and likely future) finance minister to significantly increase funds for public investments and measures of active employment in the 2017 budget, setting re-industrialisation and full employment as priorities.
