Unionist demands that economy minister step down

Leader of the Croatian Association of Labour Unions (HURS) Ozren Matijasevic on Tuesday claimed that the "lengthy and fruitless" personnel recruitment in the government is giving rise to doubt about the implementation of necessary reforms, adding that Economy Minister Tomislav Panenic should be replaced because he could not be trusted due to his unlawful disposal of someone else's property.

It is unacceptable that the government still isn't equipped and that it has not resolved personnel issues for all ministries and that scandals are not being resolved promptly and that the damage is becoming greater, Matijasevic told a press conference.

Matijasevic insists that the scandal concerning styrofoam that Minister Panenic unlawfully disposed of was sufficient reason to cancel his employment contract with a retail outlet is a sufficient reason for his resignation as the minister.

We demand that the government replaces the Economy Minister and appoints a new one because it's absolutely certain that they need not request legal advice (as they did in the case of Crnoja). If the prime minister does not act on this, we will forward a request to all parliamentary parties, benches and the Speaker to discuss a no confidence vote on Minister Panenic, said Matijasevic.

Matijasevic said that reforms should have started already and that the key framework for that is the 2016 budget which seems to be placed into a position of secondary importance instead of being the focus of the government's work.
