Voting in parliamentary elections being repeated at seven polling stations

Elections for the eighth Croatian parliament are being repeated at seven polling stations on Sunday because of a surplus of ballots, and the State Electoral Commission is due to announce the complete results of the vote at 3pm on Monday.

Voting is being repeated at one polling station each in Osijek, Pakrac and Slunj and two polling stations each in Sibenik and Zadar. The total number of voters registered there is 2,903.

The vote will decide who will represent the Hungarian minority and the Albanian, Bosniak, Montenegrin, Macedonia and Slovenian minorities in the Croatian parliament.

Sandor Juhas and Robert Jankovics are candidates for the representative of the Hungarian minority. Last Sunday Juhas received 21 ballots more than Jankovics, who won 2,196 votes. Ermina Lekaj Prljaskaj was just three votes ahead of Idris Sulejmani in the race for the post of representative of the other five minorities.

The polling stations close at 7pm.

In the elections held on November 8, the centre-right Patriotic Coalition led by the Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) won 59 seats in the 151-seat parliament, the Social Democratic Party's (SDP) centre-left Croatia Is Growing coalition won 56 and the reformist Bridge party 19. The remaining 17 seats were split among five parties and representatives of the ethnic minorities.
