Zagreb Archbishop receives HDZ leader

Cardinal Josip Bozanic, Archbishop of Zagreb, on Monday afternoon received the Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) president, Tomislav Karamarko, and the meeting was arranged at Karamarko's request, the Zagreb Archdiocese press office stated in a press release on Tuesday.

In keeping with the protocol, a month before the parliamentary election Cardinal Bozanic ceased receiving politicians running in the election, although many requested meetings with the dignitary, according to the press release.

The press release did not specify the topics of the Bozanic-Karamarko talks on Monday.

Croatia held the parliamentary election on Sunday, and unofficial results of the parliamentary vote show that, after 99.79% of ballots were counted, the Patriotic Coalition led by the HDZ won 59 seats in the 151-seat parliament, the SDP-led Croatia Is Growing coalition won 56 seats, the Most (Bridge) alliance, the biggest surprise of the election, won 19 seats, the Istrian Democratic Party (IDS) three, the Croatian Democratic Party of Slavonia and Baranja (HDSSB) and Zagreb Mayor Milan Bandic's coalition two seats each, and the Successful Croatia coalition and the Human Shield one seat each.
