Croatia's Srna, Cacic hope for Croatian fans on best behaviour

Croatia captain Darijo Srna and coach Ante Cacic are hopeful that their fans at Euro 2016 will behave themselves and support the team well in France.

Croatian fans have caused problems with racist and nationalist behaviour of various kinds in the past, and been punished by the ruling bodies FIFA and UEFA.

"We had some problems with the fans," Srna admitted. "We can't do anything, we have to play. They were great in 1998 (at the World Cup in France where Croatia finished third) and I hope they can repeat it. They can be really fair."

Cacic said: "They know how to support their team. Those who create problems are not fans, I call them anti-Croatian supporters."

Sanctions have included Croatia being docked a point and ordered to play two games behind closed doors by UEFA after a swastika was put on the pitch with a chemical agent ahead of the Euro 2016 qualifier against Italy.

Defender Josip Simunic was banned for 10 matches by FIFA and missed the 2014 World Cup for a pro-Nazi chant with fans after a playoff win against Iceland.
