Classical statue of athlete to go on display in Croatia

An ancient bronze statue of the Greek athlete Apoxyomenos is soon to go on display at the Fritzi Palace in Mali Losinj in Croatia.

The statue, dating from the 3rd or 4th century BC, was discovered off the Croatian island of Losinj in 1999, since when it has been exhibited at various locations, including the British Museum in London and the Louvre in Paris, according to the Croatian National Tourist Board.

Now it is returning to Croatia for good. A building at the palace has been refurbished for the exhibition, which opens to visitors from the end of April.
