Austria set to take in migrants only at Sentilj/Spielfeld crossing

Austria will start applying a new regime for the acceptance of migrants coming from Slovenia, and they will be allowed to cross into Austria only via the Sentilj-Spielfeld border crossing, Slovenian media outlets reported on Monday.

A spokesman for the Styrian police, Fritz Grundnig, was quoted by the Maribor-based Vecer daily as saying that as of this week west Europe-bound migrants would be re-routed to enter Austria from Slovenia only via Sentilj.

Austrian Interior Minister Johanna Mikl-Leitner has recently announced a possibility for introducing allowable daily quotas to ration the intake of migrants. Last year, Austria received some 90,000 requests from asylum-seekers and was among those countries faced with the largest share in the ongoing migrant crisis.

Slovenia's officials said recently that their country was braced for unilateral moves from Austria and would act appropriately to protect its interests.
