Climbing accident leaves man hanging upside down over 200-metre drop

A 75-year-old rock climber was left hanging upside down by a rope over a nearly 200-metre drop after a fall in Austria's Tirol region, local police reported Sunday.

The unfortunate man was unable to extricate himself from the situation, which occurred Saturday, as he apparently had not put his climbing harness on correctly. He slipped out of the harness partially in the fall and was preventing from plunging to his death only by holding on with one leg.

Ultimately, a passing climber came to his aid and notified rescue authorities. The victim was in the end brought to hospital with only abrasions to his arms.
