Doctors Without Borders: At least 260 injured in Idomeni

At least 260 migrants were injured on Sunday in Idomeni at the Greece-Macedonia border during clashes with Macedonian police who used tear gas and rubber bullets, the international medical humanitarian organisation "Doctors Without Borders/Medecins Sans Frontieres (MSF)" reported.

"The situation was extremely tense this morning, when tear gas, rubber bullets and stun grenades were used in Idomeni camp to disperse crowds. The MSF teams treated 300 people, including roughly 200 people who were experiencing respiratory problems after being subjected to tear gas," the organisation reported on its web site on Sunday.

On Sunday morning, migrants rallied near the borderline after rumours spread that Macedonia would again start letting refugees in.

A scuffle erupted when some 500 protesters tried to remove the border fence and enter the Macedonian territory.

Over 11,000 refugees have been stranded in a refugee camp in Idomeni in very bad conditions for several weeks.

Fotis Filippou, Amnesty International official, was quoted by international media as saying that "the scenes we are seeing are the expected and unavoidable result of thousands being trapped in Idomeni and elsewhere in Greece - abandoned by Europe - in awful conditions and with little hope of getting protection."
