Four men injured in shooting in southern Sweden

Four men were injured, one seriously, in a shooting Sunday evening in the southern Swedish city of Malmo, police said.

Initial reports said the shooters opened fire at a car the men were in, before fleeing the scene on two scooters. They remained at large.

A police spokeswoman told dpa investigations were underway at the crime scene in the neighbourhood of Fosie in southern Malmo.

The injured men were previously known by police in relation to gang-related crime, she said, but the motive for the shooting was not known.

The incident was being investigated as attempted murder.

Many police officers were on duty Sunday evening due to a local football derby, and were redeployed to help with the probe. Some were dispatched to the hospital where the men were taken for treatment.

A loud explosion was heard two hours after the shooting, not far from the scene. Police said there were no reports of any injuries or if the blast had any link to the shooting.

Malmo, along with several other Swedish cities, has in recent years experienced a number of shootings, often related to gang turf wars.
