Islamic State flag, Salafist book found with dead Belgian suspect

A man killed by Belgian police as part of an anti-terrorist raid on Tuesday was found with a Salafist book, while a flag for the Islamic State extremist group was located in the flat, a prosecution spokesman says.

The man has been identified as Mohamed Belkaid, an Algerian national born in 1980 and illegally living in Belgium, who was only known to police for a theft in 2014. He was shot as he was about to open fire from the apartment window, the spokesman said.

Two people have been detained, although it is not yet known if they are connected to the investigation, the prosecution says. Two further suspects are still on the run.
