Mogherini warns of Brexit's impact on British, EU foreign policy

Some of Britain's foreign policy priorities can only be achieved within the European Union, the bloc's foreign policy chief says, making her the latest EU official to warn of the negative consequences that the country's departure from the bloc could have.

"In some cases, the UK agenda, ... especially when it comes to foreign and security policy, it's not only better served, but only served through EU instruments," Federica Mogherini told EU and national parliamentarians in Brussels.

She used trade perks recently promised to Jordan at a conference in London on the Syrian refugee crisis as an example. This British priority would have been "impossible to achieve if not through an EU decision or EU work," Mogherini argues.

She also warned that EU foreign and security policy would suffer from a so-called Brexit, describing Britain's input as "vital."
