Moscow nanny charged with murder in child decapitation case

A nanny detained by Moscow police while holding the severed head of a 4-year-old girl has been charged with murder, Russia's federal Investigative Committee said Friday.

"Investigators are currently taking exhaustive measures to study the personality of the accused and establish the motives for her crime," spokesman Vladimir Markin said in comments carried by state news agency TASS.

The suspect, 38-year-old Uzbek national Gulchehra Bobokulova, faces up to 20 years in prison on the charge of murdering a young child.

She is believed to have long suffered from schizophrenia and is undergoing a psychological evaluation, Markin said.

Bobokulova was caught on Monday waving around the child's severed head near a metro station in north-west Moscow.

Clad in a black burka, she yelled "Allahu Akbar" ("Allah is great") before being captured by police.

Bobokulova has given the authorities various reasons for killing the child, including that "Allah commanded" her to do it.

Authorities found the rest of the child's body in the family's burned-out apartment after extinguishing a blaze that Bobokulova is believed to have started.

Muscovites have been laying flowers and children's toys outside the metro station October Field, where Bobokulova was detained.
