Austrians are set to vote in a rerun presidential election on October 2 after the initial vote was annulled because of irregularities, Interior Minister Wolfgang Sobotka announced Tuesday.
Green candidate Alexander Van der Bellen had won the run-off election in May by a slim margin against far-right contender Norbert Hofer.
Hofer's Freedom Party had contested the result, alleging that ballot papers were sorted and counted prematurely and without proper supervision in a significant number of voting districts.
The Constitutional Court confirmed these allegations on Friday and ordered a rerun, although it did not find any evidence that results were actually manipulated.
The October 2 date still has to be formally confirmed by parliament.
