Russia summons Dutch ambassador over MH17 report

The Russian Foreign Ministry on Monday will summon the Dutch ambassador to Moscow to voice displeasure with the findings of a criminal inquiry into the downing of Malaysia Airlines Flight MH17.

A Dutch-led international team of investigators said earlier this week that a missile moved into rebel-held eastern Ukraine from Russia brought down the passenger jet in 2014, killing at 298 aboard.

Russia quickly rejected the findings as "politically motivated." Moscow has repeatedly denied that pro-Russian separatists fighting in the region were behind the crash, instead blaming the Ukrainian military.

"In a bid to explain the additional reasons for which Russia does not accept the methods used by the International Investigation Team ... the Russian Foreign Ministry will summon the Dutch ambassador to Moscow on October 3," ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said late Friday.

The Dutch Foreign Ministry on Friday summoned Russia's envoy to the Netherlands. Foreign Minister Bert Koenders said the Netherlands was disturbed Moscow's "unfounded criticism" against the investigators.

The Malaysia Airlines flight, en route from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur, crashed in Ukraine's disputed Donetsk region in July 2014 amid clashes between pro-Russian rebels and the Ukrainian military.

Most of those killed were Dutch.
