Slovenia sets locations for temporary accommodation of migrants

The Slovenian Interior Ministry has announced on its website the list of locations which, if needed, could accommodate 7,703 persons, migrants passing through Slovenia on their path to the European Union and asylum seekers.

The main two locations on the list of approximately 20 of them are Sentilj and Dobova where 2,000 people could be accommodated at each location. Another 300 people can be accommodated along the Gruskovje border crossing (Macelj).

Other locations are mostly military and business facilities, parking lots, etc.

Over the past several weeks, a number of protests were held in Slovenian towns in which the government plans to set up migrant reception centres in needed.

Slovenian President Borut Pahor on Friday proposed dialogue between the government and the opposition, as well as talks with local authorities to discuss towns in which migrants could be accommodated and how many migrants could Slovenia receive at the most.

Slovenian Chief of Police Marijan Fank told the Ljubljana-based Delo daily, which hit the newsstands on Saturday that it was difficult to speculate whether another migrant wave could hit Slovenia, adding however that plans were in place for such a scenario.
