Croatian experts come up with app to remove tinnitus

People with hearing problems or constant ringing in the ears (tinnitus), which can be quite disturbing, can now breathe a sigh of relief because after years of research Croatian scientists have come up with an application using music-notch therapy to remove the ringing.

The therapy involves listening to music with a subdued portion of the sound spectre after which the brain begins to ignore the frequency of the ringing, the company's co-founder, radiologist Natko Beck, told Hina.

Almost 20% of the population are temporarily affected by some sort of ringing in their ears and Croatia's statistics are similar to global trends, Beck said.

People with this problem are recommended to use the "TinnitusOFF" application at least one hour a day and the best results are achieved after three hours, becoming significant after three to six months, he said.

Our team came up with the idea of the application after reading a scientific article and, after researching the matter, we confirmed that music-notch therapy is proven to treat tinnitus and decided to create the application through a start-up project, Beck explained.

The application is available for all three platforms - PC, iOS, and Android - and will be offered free for the first 1,500 users who visit the web site
