Report: Uber to offer rides in self-driving cars

Ride service Uber will begin offering passengers trips in self-driving cars later this month, the Bloomberg financial news agency reports.

Riders in the eastern US city of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, will be able to order rides in the self-driving cars, which will also have humans behind the wheel for safety.

The cars will be specially designed Volvos developed in a 300-million-dollar partnership between the two companies, the Swedish carmaker said Thursday.

Volvo will provide the base cars that Uber will outfit with its own self-driving technology, but Volvo will also use the same cars to develop its own self-driving technologies.
