Albania bow out from Euro, but set to receive heroes' homecoming

The Albanian national team may have bowed out of the 2016 Euro, but is still receiving a massive heroes' welcome at home from a nation thankful for its first-ever major tournament and first-ever win.

"A chapter on fantastic Albanian football closes after we were eliminated due to goal difference," Prime Minister Edi Rama said on Facebook.

He urged Albanians to greet the team on its scheduled return around 4 pm (1400 GMT) Thursday.

"Let them taste a heroes' welcome, show gratitude and respect for their exceptional contribution to the image of the Albanian jersey," he said.

"The Albanian dream ends," the daily Koha Jone online lamented briefly, then went on went on to present homecoming plans.

After landing at the Tirana airport, the team will ride the 20 kilometres into the city in a panorama bus. The highway will be blocked for that and is expected to be lined by people, it said.
