Albania celebrates historic first win at a major tournament

Albanian media on Monday celebrated the country's first-ever win at a major international tournament, a 1:0 weekend victory against Romania, hoping that the triumph will be enough to advance the national team to the next stage.

The daily Shekulli hailed the "historic first win in European championships," while TV Klan says "Albania waited 68 years for this."

"Albania shines against Romania - the dream continues," Top TV blared, while the sport news portal Supersport says "everybody knows Albania" following the "monumental" triumph.

News portal 24 Ora laid out the scenarios in the remaining five first-round matches that need to happen for Albania to remain in the tournament - who needs to defeat whom for Albania to advance to the next stage.

Albania is likely to end up third ranked in its group, but the four top-scoring third-place teams will be able to advance.

"Foooooooooorcaaaaaaaa Shqiiiiiiiiiipeeeeeeeeeeee, Fooooooooorcaaaaaaaa, (go, Albania, go)," Prime Minister Edi Rama wrote on his Facebook page.

In Kosovo, Serbia's former province with a majority Albanian population, the daily Express urges "Albanians wherever they are" to voice their support for the team at the official UEFA page.
