Croatian tennis referee banned for 10 years

A Croatian tennis referee has been given a 10-year ban by governing body ITF for working at tournaments while suspended.

"Denis Pitner, of Croatia, has had his ITF officiating certification suspended for a period of 10 years after being found guilty of offences..." the ITF said in a statement Tuesday.

Pitner had been suspended in 2015 to July 31, 2016, for passing on information about a player to a coach and for betting on matches.

But despite being suspended Pitner failed to tell tournament organizers of his status and officiated at events regardless, and had applied to officiate at this year's Wimbledon.
