Djokovic stays in charge at top of men's tennis rankings

Novak Djokovic continues to hold a commanding lead at the top of the men's tennis rankings as he prepares for the defence of his Australian Open title.

Nadal, who crushed Rafael Nadal 6-1, 6-2 in the final of the Qatar Open on Saturday, improves his points tally to 16,790 at the top of the ATP rankings released Monday.

The Serb, who holds three of the four Grand Slam crowns, begins the defence of the Australian Open from January 18.

Britain's Andy Murray, beaten by Djokovic in last year's Australian Open final, remains second on 8,945 points.

Roger Federer, who lost Sunday's Brisbane International final to Milos Raonic of Canada, stays third on 8,165.

In the only change in the top 10, Japan's Kei Nishikori moves up a place to seventh, while Spain's David Ferrer drops to eighth.
