Canadian Evan Dunfee is promoted to the bronze medal position in the men's 50-kilometre walk after Japan's Hirooki Arai is disqualified.
Arai initially edged Dunfee in the duel for third by around 14 seconds but the Canada team immediately said they would protest as Arai had bumped Dunfee en route, breaking his rhythm.
The Canada team reported their protest was successful but said they expected Japan to launch a counter appeal.
UPDATE: Arai reinstated to walking bronze on appeal
Japan's Hirooki Arai is reinstated in the bronze medal position of the men's Olympic 50-kilometre walk.
Arai initially finished third in the race but was disqualified following a protest by Canada, who claimed he had obstructed Evan Dunfee.
Japan launched an appeal of their own against the Canadian protest and were successful in having Hirooki reinstated, the Canadian team and the governing body IAAF said.
