Four Olympic medallists from Beijing 2008 test positive for doping

Four medallists from the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games were among the six latest athletes who have tested positive for doping in the reanalysis of doping samples, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) said Wednesday.

Russian weightlifters Nadezda Evstyukhina, who won bronze in the women's 75-kilogram category, and Marina Shainova, who took silver in the women's 58kg, tested positive, as did Armenia's men's 69kg silver medallist Tigran Martirosyan.

Tatyana Firova, a member of the already disqualified Russian 4x400-metre relay team which finished second, also tested positive.

Two further weightlifters who did not finish in the top three in their events, the Moldovan Alexandru Dudoglo and Azerbaijan's Intigam Zairov, were also named by the IOC.

The six are the latest in a series of athletes who have tested positive for forbidden substances in IOC retests of samples from the Beijing 2008 and London 2012 Games. The IOC stores samples for 10 years and retests with the latest scientific methods.
