Inter Milan draw at home as stuttering start continues

Inter Milan were held 1-1 at home by Palermo Sunday but Mauro Icardi's leveller at least gave them their first point from two Serie A games.

Andrea Rispoli netted his first goal in the top flight with a deflected effort as Palermo also moved onto one point.

Inter lost their opener at Chievo and were thankful for Icardi's intervention Sunday.

“Scoring is good for me as a striker, but when you don't win it is not good,” Icardi said. “Today in the first half we created some chances, but unfortunately did not score.

“The team's goal is to get into the next Champions League and the club is making a great effort. But one point from two games is not enough for us.”

In hot conditions at the San Siro, the hosts threatened with two Gary Medel efforts, the first on 34 minutes being cleared on the goal line by Sinisa Andelkovic, while Miranda and Jaison Murillo also nodded wide.

The Sicilians went 1-0 up on 48 minutes when their high pressing allowed Rispoli to beat Samir Handanovic.

Icardi missed with a header on 70 minutes but beat Josip Posavec on 72 following a cross by substitute Antonio Candreva, who fired over in injury time.

Champions Juventus sit top on six after winning 1-0 at Lazio Saturday when Napoli beat AC Milan 4-2 to reach four points. Seven games complete the round later Sunday.

A minute's silence is being observed at the start of the weekend matches and players wore black armbands to commemorate the victims of the earthquake that hit central Italy Wednesday, killing at least 290 people.
