Isinbayeva: Russia treated unfairly in doping affairs

Pole vault queen Yelena Isinbayeva says her native Russia is being treated unfairly in recent doping allegations as substance abuse also takes place in other countries.

"Athletes have also been banned in other countries such as America, England, Germany, Kenya - I don't have enough fingers to count them," Isinbayeva told RT television on Monday.

"We as Russia never asked for these federations to be suspended for systematic doping."

The Russian athletics federation was banned in November 2015 after a report from the World Anti-Doping Agency alleged widespread doping in Russian athletics.

The ruling athletics body IAAF will decide on June 17 whether the ban on Russian athletes is to be lifted meaning they can compete at the Rio de Janeiro Olympics in August.

German Olympic Sports Confederation president Alfons Hoermann on Tuesday dismissed Isinbayeva's allegations, saying "she should come up with background and documents on how she reached her assessment."

Hoermann also named the anti-doping fight in Germany "very professional and intense."

The two-time Olympic champion Isinbayeva, 33, criticised that she is unable to compete, saying: "I have submitted doping samples for 20 years, all were negative. No one has the right to prohibit me from competing."

Russian athletes are also among those caught in recent retests of samples from the 2008 Games in Beijing and London 2012, with the results from the examinations of the b-samples pending.
