Josip Glasnovic wins trap shooting gold for Croatia

Croatian shooter Josip Glasnovic won the gold medal in men's trap at the 2016 Summer Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro on Monday, beating Italy's Giovanni Pellielo 17-16 and winning the first medal for Croatia in this year's games.

Ed Ling won Great Britain's third medal of the Rio Olympics with bronze in the men's trap shooting.

Glasnovic won the 24th medal for Croatia at Summer Olympics since the country gained independence and the seventh gold. 

Croatia won the gold in men's handball in 1996 and 2004, in water polo in 2012, Nikolaj Pesalov won it in weightlifting in 2000, Sandra Perkovic in disc throwing in 2012 and Cernogoraz in men's trap in 2012.

Croatian athletes have also won seven silvers and ten bronzes.
