Mandzukic brace helps Juve to seventh straight victory

Juventus rallied to win 3-2 at Carpi from a Mario Mandzukic brace and a Paul Pogba goal Sunday to go second in the Serie A three points behind leaders Inter Milan.

The title holders clinched a seventh straight win to move to 33 points from 17 games, but could be leapfrogged by Fiorentina and Napoli, both on 32 before tackling Chievo and Atalanta, respectively, later Sunday.

Inter (36) close the round late at home to Lazio. Promoted Carpi are second-last on 10 points as the league goes into a two-week break.

Juve fired a single high shot with Paulo Dybala before being stunned on 15 minutes from Marco Borriello.

The former Juve striker stormed on the right to get the better of Leonardo Bonucci and beat Gianluigi Buffon low in the right corner.

The equalizer came in the 18th minute as Mandzukic elegantly controlled a rebound after Vid Belec saved a shot from Sami Khedira.

Belec then saved shots from Claudio Marchisio and Khedira, before being stunned again on 41 minutes when the Croat nodded downward off Patrice Evra.

A long ball from Marchisio then found Pogba in the box to chest down and flick in on 50 minutes, but a deflection from Bonucci allowed the hosts to pull one back in injury time before Lorenzo Lollo missed an easy equalizer.
