Real Madrid's Modric undergoes surgery on his left knee

Real Madrid playmaker Luka Modric on Sunday underwent arthroscopic surgery to clean up his left knee, the European champions said.

Modric, 31, had been complaining of pain in the knee for several weeks, and had missed several matches in consequence.

According to media reports, he will be out of action for around a month. Modric will miss Croatia's upcoming World Cup qualifying games and Madrid matches in the Spanish Liga and Champions League.
