Spain's Moya to advise Raonic during Australian Open

Milos Raonic has joined the trend of working with a VIP coach, with the Canadian announcing that former Spanish great Carlos Moya will advise him during the upcoming Australian Open.

Raonic, ranked 14th, made the announcment after beating Stan Wawrinka 7-5, 7-5 to reach the Saturday final of the Abu Dhabi exhibition where he will play Rafael Nadal.

"A great way to start off the New Year, with a win," the 25-year-old said on Instagram. "I'd also like to break some news to #TeamMilos.

"I'd like to announce that Carlos Moya will be joining the team in Melbourne. As a great champion, competitor and person I think he will be a great mentor/coach to me in achieving my dreams and complementing/joining the team."

Raonic was coached until last month by former Croatian player Ivan Ljubicic, who has gone on to work with Roger Federer. That pairing of old friends will make its competitive debut at the Brisbane ATP event where world number three Federer defends his title starting on Sunday.

Swiss-based clay maestro Moya, 39, won the French Open in 1998 and stood for two weeks in 1999 as world number one. The first mentor to Nadal, a fellow islander from Mallorca, finished runner-up at the Australian Open in 1997.

Moya joins a list of celebrity tennis coaches, headed by Boris Becker (Novak Djokovic), Amelie Mauresmo (Andy Murray), Michael Chang (Kei Nishikori) and Magnus Norman (Wawrinka).
