Swede Bjorkman to join Team Cilic as coach

Croatian tennis ace Marin Cilic, competing this week at the Cincinnati Masters, has added former Swedish great Jonas Bjorkman to his team as a replacement for departed coach Goran Ivanisevic.

The 14th-ranked Cilic parted company from 2001 Wimbledon champion Ivanisevic in July.

Cilic, the 2014 US Open winner, called the Bjorkman deal a "new collaboration. I'm really looking forward to our work together. I have known Jonas for many years and he is one of the nicest guys on the tour."

Bjorkman, 44, who retired in 2008, served as coach to Andy Murray before being edged out by former French grand slam winner Amelie Mauresnmo, split with the double Olympic gold medallist Scot this spring to be replaced for a second Murray coaching run by Ivan Lendl.

Bjorkman has held a variety of positions including television commentator and administrator at the home ATP events in Stockholm and Bastad.

"I am very excited because we have known each other for many years," said Bjorkman. "Marin is such a hard worker and he really brings a good attitude to the court.  I want to do my best to contribute support and help him achieve his goals and dreams."
