West Ham made a winning Premier League debut in their new stadium on Sunday while promoted Middlesbrough picked up their first victory of the young season.
Michail Antonio scored a late winner as West Ham beat 10-man Bournemouth in the first league game at the London Stadium.
The goal came after after Bournemouth's Harry Arter was sent off for a second yellow card and sent a club-record attendance of 56,977 home happy.
"The guys did brilliantly," West Ham manager Slaven Bilic told the BBC. "We just deserved it. We were pushing and wanted it more.
"We’re delighted to end the first game at this beautiful stadium with a win and a clean sheet."
A rather drab affair changed in the 77th minute when Arter was sent off for pulling back Cheikhou Kouyate at the midway line.
Antonio took advantage eight minutes later when he headed in Gokhan Tore's cross at the far post.
West Ham keeper Adrian then denied Joshua King an equalizer in stoppage time.
"It was a tight game with little goal mouth action," Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe said. "It was going to swing on a moment of brilliance or a mistake.
"Unfortunately the mistake for us was going down to 10 men."
Cristhian Stuani scored twice as Middlesbrough cracked the win column with a 2-1 victory at Sunderland.
Boro are unbeaten in their first two games back in the Premier League since the 2008-09 season.
"Not many players in out team have played much in the Premier League," midfielder Stewart Downing told Sky Sports. "It was a team effort today." Stuani opened the scoring with a shot from about 30 yards into the top corner and doubled the lead just before half-time.
Sunderland pulled a goal back in the 71st minute through Patrick van Aanholt but it wasn't enough to prevent a second straight loss. "We played well, we had a great level of intensity but ran out with 10 minutes to go," Sunderland manager David Moyes said. "The boys did try to win and score in the second half but were unlucky."
